Ancient Sages & Philosophers
Maharshi Gautam
Maharshi Gautam (Akshapada) is the ancient sage who founded the Nyaya school of philosophy, one of the six orthodox systems of Indian thought. Living in the intellectual hub of Mithila, he authored the 'Nyaya Sutras', a foundational text that codified the rules of logic, debate, and epistemology. His rigorous method of inquiry (anvikshiki) provided the framework for rational thought in India for millennia. The Gautam Ashram near Darbhanga stands as a testament to his enduring legacy.
