Pre-birth

Garbhadhana

The sacrament of conception, marking the beginning of life.

Pumsavana

Simantonnayana

Parting of the hair for the expectant mother to ward off evil spirits.

Childhood

Jatakarma

Performed immediately after birth to welcome the newborn.

Namakarana

Naming ceremony, usually on the 10th or 12th day.

Nishkramana

Taking the baby out of the house for the first time.

Annaprashana

First feeding of solid food (usually Kheer).

Chudakarana (Mundan)

First tonsure ceremony, shedding the hair from birth.

Karnavedha

Upanayana
