Put on the sacred thread, which is supremely holy, born with Brahma, longevity-granting, foremost, and white. May the sacred thread grant strength and brilliance.
“Etavaddina Paryantam Brahma Tvam Dharitam Maya. Jirnatvattvatparityago Gachha Sutra Yatha Sukham.”
O Thread, I have worn you alone as Brahma for so long. Now, due to being worn out, I discard you. Go happily.
“Yena Baddho Bali Raja Danavendro Mahabalah. Tena Tvamapi Badhnami Rakshe Ma Chala Ma Chala.”
I bind you with the same protective thread that bound the mighty Demon King Bali. O Protection, do not move, do not move (stay firm).
“Kushagre Vasate Rudrah Kushamadhye Tu Keshavah. Kushamule Vased Brahma Kushanme Dehi Medini...”
Rudra resides at the tip of Kusha, Keshava in the middle, and Brahma at the root. O Earth, give me Kusha. You are Kusha, son of Kusha, created by Brahma of old. I uproot Kusha for the benefit of gods and ancestors.
“Om Aabrahman Brahmano Brahmavarchasi Jayata... Shatrunam Buddhinashostu Mitranamudastava.”
May our nation have knowledgeable scholars, brave warriors, productive cattle, and wise leaders. May rains be timely and nature bountiful. May enemies lose their malice and friends prosper.
“Brahma Muraristripurantakari Bhanuh Shashi Bhumisuto Budhascha. Guruscha Shukrah Shanirahuketavah Kurvantu Sarve Mama Suprabhatam.”
May Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu - all make my morning auspicious.
“Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabha. Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva Sarvakaryeshu Sarvada.”
O Lord with the curved trunk and massive body, shining like a crore suns, please remove obstacles from all my undertakings, always.
“Om Saha Navavatu. Saha Nau Bhunaktu. Saha Viryam Karavavahai...”
May He protect us both together; may He nourish us both together; may we work together with great energy. May our study be vigorous and effective; may we not hate each other. Om Peace, Peace, Peace.
“Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam. Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityormukshiya Mamritat.”
We worship the three-eyed One (Lord Shiva), who is fragrant and creates goodness. As a cucumber is liberated from its stem, so may I be liberated from the bondage of death, for the sake of immortality.
“Om Aehi Surya Sahastransho Tejo Rashe Jagatpate. Anukampaya Mam Bhaktya Grihanarghyam Divakara.”
Oh Sun God, with a thousand rays, You are the abode of light and the Lord of the Universe. Please have compassion on me, Your devotee, and accept this offering.
“Om Sumangali-riyam Vadhurimam Sameta Pashyata. Saubhagyam-asyai Dattva Yathastam Viparetana.”
This bride is very auspicious. Come and see her. Bless her with good fortune and prosperity before you return to your homes.
“Karpuragauram Karunavataram Sansarasaram Bhujagendraharam. Sada Vasantam Hridayaravinde Bhavam Bhavanisahitam Namami.”
I bow to Lord Shiva, who is as white as camphor, the incarnation of compassion, the essence of the world, wearing the serpent king as a garland. He always dwells in the lotus of my heart, along with Goddess Parvati.
“Ya Kundendu Tushara Hara Dhavala Ya Shubhra Vastravrita. Ya Veena Vara Danda Mandita Kara Ya Shveta Padmasana. Ya Brahmachyuta Shankara Prabhritibhir Devai Sada Vandita. Sa Mam Patu Saraswati Bhagavati Nikhshesha Jadyapaha.”
Salutations to Goddess Saraswati, who is pure white like jasmine, the moon, and snow. She is adorned in white garments and holds a Veena. Seated on a white lotus, and worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, may she remove all my ignorance.
“Avaidhavyaṁ ca saubhāgyaṁ dehi tvaṁ mama suvrate. Putrān pautrānśca saukhyaṁ ca gṛhāṇārghyaṁ namo'stute. Vata siñcāmi te mūlaṁ salilairamṛtopamaiḥ. Yathā śākhāpraśākhābhirvṛddho'si tvaṁ mahītale. Tathā putraiśca pautraiśca sampannaṁ kuru māṁ sadā.”
Avaidhavya (freedom from widowhood) and good fortune, please grant to me, O virtuous Savitri. Bless me with children, grandchildren, and happiness; accept this water offering (Arghya), salutations to you. I water your roots, O Banyan (Vat) tree, with water like nectar. Just as you grow and expand with branches on this earth, similarly, make me prosperous with children and grandchildren always.
