Baua Devi
Baua Devi is a pioneer who helped transform Madhubani painting from a domestic wall art tradition into a globally recognized art form. In 1966, during a famine, she was among the first women to transfer these paintings onto paper for sale. A Padma Shri awardee, her work is characterized by bold nag (serpent) motifs and is exhibited in museums worldwide. She represents the resilience and creativity of Mithila's women.
