Chanda Jha
📅 1831 - 1907
Kavishwar Chanda Jha (1831–1907) is the father of modern Maithili literature. He is best known for his magnum opus, the 'Mithila Bhasha Ramayana', which retold the epic in the language of the people. He traversed the length and breadth of Mithila to collect historical manuscripts and was instrumental in structurally reviving the language at a time when it was facing decline.
