Mithila Fish Curry

🥘 Ingredients
- 500g Rohu or Catla Fish
- 2 tbsp Yellow Mustard seeds (Sarso) paste
- 1 tbsp Garlic paste
- 2 Tomatoes (chopped)
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tsp Red Chili powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- Mustard Oil
- Salt
- Coriander leaves for garnish
👩🍳 Instructions

Marinate fish pieces with salt and turmeric.

Fry the fish in hot mustard oil until golden. Set aside.

In the same oil, add mustard seeds for tempering.

Add the mustard and garlic paste. Sauté well.

Add spices and tomatoes. Cook until oil separates.

Add water to make the gravy.

Once gravy boils, add the fried fish pieces.

Simmer for 5-7 minutes. Garnish with coriander.
💡 Cultural Significance
Fish is a symbol of fertility and auspiciousness in Mithila ("Maachh-Bhaat"). No celebration is complete without it for non-vegetarians.
