Bonhi Mahadev (Dharaura)
📍 Dharaura, Benipur, Darbhanga

The Bonhi Mahadev temple in Dharaura, Benipur, is a unique spiritual site where Lord Shiva is worshipped under an ancient Peepal tree. 'Bonhi' translates to 'Mahadev of the Forest'. The temple is famous for a local legend involving a childless police Sub-Inspector (Daroga) who vowed to build a grand temple if blessed with a son. When his wish was granted, he attempted to cut down the sacred Peepal tree to construct the building, but blood reportedly oozed from the tree's branches. Following a divine dream where Mahadev expressed his wish to remain under the tree, the Daroga instead built a long road for the villagers, now known as 'Darogba Bandh'. A massive fair is held here annually on Nark Niwaran Chaturdashi.
