Author / Source: Mahakavi Vidyapati Thakur (c. 1352–1448)
“The crowning jewel of Maithili literature by 'Maithil Kavi Kokil' Vidyapati. His immortal lyrics of Radha-Krishna love (Padavali), Shiva Nacharis, and Gosavani Geet shaped the literary and devotional landscape of all Eastern India.”
Literary Significance & Summary
Beyond his soulful Maithili songs that are still sung at every lifecycle ritual (Sohar, Vivah, Kohbar, Samdaun) across Mithila, Vidyapati composed authoritative works in Sanskrit and Avahatta including 'Kirtilata', 'Kirtipataka', 'Purush Pariksha' (ethical tales of human valor), and 'Likhanavali' (administrative and legal epistles).
